Best DIve @ Sunrise Ever!

Post by cardiver »

Thanks to everyone who turned out at Sunrise yesterday for an amazing dive! I think that there were 15 people there, who went in in two shifts about 20 minutes apart.
The weather was sketchy with sun and rain at the same time and then thunder and a little bit of lightning. I was really hoping that we weren't going to have to thumb the dive because of the lightning.
Almost all of our group (sorry Calvin) finally made it down to the beach and dropped on the wall. Viz was probably 30 fsw and there was no current at all for the entire 63 minutes that I was down. I saw more octos than I could count and the first pregnant wolfeel that I've ever seen.
After the dive, nine of us headed over to Tides for dinner and Macs to chat about the dive and various other topics tha come up after a few pints.....
Thanks again to everyone that showed up and it was great to fianally meet you Calvin. I was looking forward to seeing that rebreather in action.

Pictures look really good Ron.. Did you shoot with a new diffuser ? Or get a new housing... Looks and sounds like a great place to dive.. I will do it this winter when I have a weekend , for the drive, traffic, and the time to fully see and dive the site.. Calvin Buy a semi dry wetsuit For Backup !

Thanks! I put the cheap, old difuser that came with the housing back on. You definitely need to come down and dive this wall.

Dang, had I known you guys were going for food afterwards I would've hung out, instead of fighting my way back in traffic and rain. Sounds like everyone had a great dive. Love the photos too.

So, let's try this again. Let me know the next time you all are going out and I'll try to come. This time, with my second drysuit.

I agree fully with Ron and everyone that it was a GREAT dive. This was my first time at Sunrise and someone predicted slack perfect cause I never felt any type of current the whole dive. I got to see my first Wolf EELS out in the open!!!! :boucegreen: I think we NEED to have NW dive club T shirts with every ones screen names on the back and real names on the front. next time someone plans a dive here I will surely do my utmost to make it. However, it was also the first time on the other side of the TOLL bridge and I kinda made a BOO BOO and went on the good to go lanes for which I had NO transponder. IF anyone does that here is what you need to do. You have to open a go to go account online and fund it of course. It cost me $61 for both my vehicles and they will review it and then see you open an account and will automatically take the TOLL. IF you ignore it there is a $52 fine. So I only paid $9 more for two transponders and avoided the ticket. You are also suppose to call customer service but they close at 5pm so I was worried all night that since I was not able to talk to anyone they would be sending me a ticket in the mail. I called next morning first thing and the lady was kinda surprised I did the right thing so fast. :hello2:

It was great to dive Sunrise again! My lower back hurt like heck this morning, but it was definitely worth it! The timing of slack could not have been better. The Wolf Eel's stole the show, lot's of fun to watch. We found a small GPO that was out in the open hoping that we didn't see him. Great to see lot's of people show up for this great dive! Bob.

So I thought that the sign said there's no toll for carpools? Casey and I just blew right through - oops?

NOPE there is tolls for everyone that I am aware. those left carpool lanes are for those go to go transponders and if you saw that BRIGHT light bar across the road, I assume they take pictures of every vehicle. So if you dont wish to get the $52 ticket or if you dont let me know so I can be very...... You have to open an account online and call customer service from 8am-5pm.

http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/GoodToGo/contacts.htm
http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/GoodToGo/SR16TollPlazaSigns.htm all signs seem to point to pay or else

OK so maybe I put my foot in my mouth. I would call and ask cause now I really dont know if you have to pay if your using the carpool with two or more persons? I know they took the toll out from my account already, but how would they know how many people are in the vehicle? GRRRRRRRR Well at least now when I want to use the carpool lane when I am alone on SR167 I can.

So what's up with the pics ... those obviously aren't from Sunrise.

Did I miss another inside joke or something?

Every pic here is from Sunrise (except the one at Tides Tavern) The pregnant female wolfie was definitely the highlite of the dive.
