Fish at Redondo

Post by Lonestar »

The other night there were a bunch of fish off the fishing pier at Redondo that were eel like. Some of them were curled up in a coil, others not. They ranged in size from about 4 inches to over 8.

I was looking at photos of cockcombs and gunnels and they didn't look like them. Any ideas? Thanks

If they were off the bottom they might have been tubesnouts. Unlike gunnels and cockscombs, they tend to move in schools, too. So that's one possibility...

Eelpouts? They tend to be very active at night at Redondo. Perhaps also snailfish, as they are seen at Redondo at night, often in a curled up position.

Eelpouts is a good possibility. Like gunnels and cockscombs, they tend to dwell on the bottom. So, Lonestar, were these fish bottom-dwellers, or were they schooling up in the water column? That'll go a long way toward ID'ing them.
