What the...?
What the...?
Saw these swimming through the water column at Port Orford, OR last weekend. Sometimes individually, sometimes in "schools". None of my books show this, so any help is appreciated. BTW, recommendations for a better invert book is also appreciated.
Re: What the...?
Your lucky to have lived to tell. Those are Martian vampire worms
Looks like a polycate worm of some sort but that's about as far as I would venture into Leslie's world. Worms are a very tough group of critters to ID without actual samples.

They're the main reason to wear a hood. I wouldn't want those things boring into my ears and EATING MY BRAIN.Furnari wrote:Yeah, they're pretty neat to watch but they do weird a guy out a little...
Re: What the...?
Cool. that's a daytime swarm of the polychaete Epigamia magna. It might be in Lamb & Hanby as Autolytus magnus. You can see more pics of them at http://wetpixel.com/articles/wetpixel-a ... rip-report
Re: What the...?
By the way, they don't eat brains. They prefer intestines.
