Octopuses or Octopi

Post by johndo88 »

So which is it, "octopuses" or "octopi". Seems like on this forum, we favor octopuses (181 search hits) over octopi (58 search hits). And now I know why.

Check out this video from Merriam-Webster at http://www.merriam-webster.com/video/0015-octopus.htm.

Cheers,

John

This came up in discussion at the club dive! Penelope made mention of the "octopodes" pluralization. I've since given up and have decided to pretend that only one octopus exists on this planet, and seeing any more than one is a hallucination, so I never have to pluralize that word. Ever.

I'm working on it! :P I'm part-way through my open water classes. I'll still remain in octopus denial, though.

Thanks for the tips!

It all depends upon how many spaces need to be filled on the crossword puzzle.

I thought they were for remaining unconscious for indefinite periods of time.

But when you breath underwater, don't make you're decent to fast.
