Silfra - Iceland

Post by seattlepaul1975 »

Just did 2 dives today at Silfra between the North American and European Continents.

Water as 38 degrees...damn cold, but super clear..and when I say super clear, I mean super F'ing clear!
(see 3 pics attached).

Was just myself and a dive lead from a local dive shop.

Was stunning. No life at all just amazing views. Dive ranged from almost a snorkel swim to 55ft in some spots.

Great time was had.

If you are going to dive here, let me know, the guy I had was awesome and have his info.

Attached are 3 pics from my gopro from doing a quick screen capture of the video. Will post the video on Vimeo when back in the states.

Images are there for me too. Looks like you (of the DM) are floating in air. Thanks for the pics. Am headed there in 1.5 months with wife and daughter. Different operator. Am also doing a dive with a guy who discovered a hydrothermal vent in a fjord on the north side of the island. Then a driving tour of the whole island. Where else are you going?

I'm using Chrome - I'll try another browser.

That did it.

Looks like flying!

Awesome diving! Can't wait to see the vid!

Looks like they're uploaded in TIFF. Try JPEG when you get back.
Visit pnwdiving.com for viz reports, slack planning, galleries and more! Your fellow diver will appreciate any viz reports you can add!

The tiff was just screen grabs on the Mac. I will get the video done when I am home. Plan on doing the video work on my 7hour flight back. @magoi who are you diving with when here?

We are diving with David Ramsay of Magma Dive for Silfra and Erlandur Bogason of the Strytan Dive Center for Strytan.

Following seattlepaul1975 footsteps, Maya, seven days after her drysuit certification by Whidbey Island Dive Center,
dove into the three hundred plus visibility of the Silfra fissure. The Diveiceland guides were great, only two diving
customers...

Some pics of Silfra from my recent Iceland trip. : )

That's me. The Eurasian tectonic plate is on the left, the North American plate on the right. More or less.
