Pregnant Kelp Crab?

Post by dwashbur »

We found this female kelp crab - I'm pretty sure it's a female because of the smaller claws - at the Monterey breakwater our first night there. Check out the underside of her abdomen. We're thinking she's probably full of eggs, getting ready to pop. What do you guys think?

It's definitely a female kelp crab. From my experience, dungies and rocks carry their eggs there, so I can only assume she's doing the same.
