Egg mass?

I saw this huge mass of eggs (?) today during the transit from Cove 2 to Cove 3. This was at 90-100 ft. You can see the end of the piling in the shot for scale. (Sorry for the poor exposure, I didn't have time to dawdle.)

I thought ling eggs were colored, though I just saw a photo in another post which looked a lot like this, and those were labeled as ling eggs. <shrug>

Lingcod would be my guess.. They yellow with age, at least here on Whidbey, but fresh ones look white to my old eyes :)
