Lost and Found

Post by Grateful Diver »

Eight divers went missing off the southern coast of Taiwan after diving a pinnacle that was widely known for currents.

After floating in the current for more than 40 hours ... all were rescued alive.

This is a phenomenal story. Some accounts I read said that one of their dive guides swam for more than 10 hours to reach shore and alert the searchers of where to look for the other divers.

Great to hear some good news for a change ... all of these divers will have an amazing story to tell ...

Wow- I saw that they were missing- amazing that they all lived! Glad to hear one of these stories with a happy ending, for once.

potty humor aside, these folks had bigger problems ... hypothermia, dehydration, sunburn, exhaustion ... my guess is that they were in wetsuits ... that they all survived is nothing short of a miracle ...

"When we searched at sea, we kept spotting blinking flashlights," Hsu told CTI Cable News

What was this all about? I don't understand. :dontknow:

Is that when they were rescued?

Or was it just an observation while they were still looking for them?

I wondered the same thing. I also wonder if a SMB was used, or would have been effective, or even the DIVEALERT whistle. It sounds like they were carried quite a ways away so maybe these tools would have been ineffective.

maybe "blinking flashlights" were safety strobes?

They were cameras ... and from one story I read, that's how the helicopters eventually spotted them.
