WSA received this request recently from Tom Good of NOAA, and I thought I'd post it here thinking a few of you might be interested in helping Tom out. Please contact him if you'd like to help out:
We are going to be conducting dead seabird decomposition rate experiments at
NOAA's Mukilteo Lab this fall/winter. To do this, I need some Dungeness
Crab, red rock crab, sunflower starfish, and longhorn decorator crabs to
compare consumption rates (6 of each species if possible). If you have any
volunteer divers that could help us out by collecting these critters, it
would be great.
Ideally, the collecting would be done in the vicinity of Mukilteo, and then
the animals could be run easily to the dock beside the finger pier at the
boat ramp. We could pick them up there and move them to the lab by car or
truck.
I am hoping to run the experiments at the end of September (I'm out of town
until 9/22), so collecting during the week of 9/22 would be ideal.
Thanks;
Tom

I'm in. Although this is gonna be easier than he thinks. Get a time organized for them to recieve the critters, maybe 3 buddy teams of divers. Have them set up collection bins on the beach with someone with the appropriate collection permits, (I don't want to run afowl of the fish and game folks) and everything he needs can be collected right there off the NOAA pier.nwscubamom wrote:WSA received this request recently from Tom Good of NOAA, and I thought I'd post it here thinking a few of you might be interested in helping Tom out. Re: Volunteer Collector divers needed!
Their collection permit is already in place - that's one of the first questions I asked too!
You might want to share your ideas of how to do this efficiently with Tom - he's heading up the effort.
Thanks for your enthusiasm and willingness to help!
