Roatan, honduras

Post by scuby-doo »

Ok two feet of vis is not good, I'm looking to plan a econmical trip to Roatan for a week here in December.
Is there anyone out here that can give me a heads up on a trip. I'm a single guy looking to dive none stop and also hit the night life and meet some vacationing ladys. There are tons of resorts but I don't want to be stuck on a sandy beach watching honeymooners or couples everywhere.
I'm looking for the best shorediving areas, resorts that offer full dive packages, econmical, and the best town locations for evening out.
Yes there tons of web sites that tell me this but I'm looking for personal knowledge of areas.
Cheers

Eric,

If you are looking for nightlife, Roatan is not for you. It is very laid back and it is all about the diving. Getting to Roatan isn't that expensive, but it is pretty expensive once you get there. The diving is pretty amazing though.

If you are looking for a cheap dive trip that has good night life, I would recommend going to Cozumel.

Cocoview.

I've stayed at Anthony's Key a couple of times and really enjoyed it. If I were to go back, however, Cocoview appears to be more geared for serious divers... but they all go to the same spots.

(And yeah, PPG is right -- no night life. Try Cozumel or Ambergris for that.)

CocoView, if you're looking for non-stop diving ... you can literally dive anytime, day or night.

There's no night life to speak of on Roatan ... if that matters to you, bring your own.

My night life was underwater ... diving's amazingly accessible, and night dives on the walls in the "front yard" are amazing.

I would second Coco view, It's reasonably priced, they have a decent dive shop/repair shop... some decent diving right from shore as it's in the center of most of the best diving in the area...not so much hand holding.

For diving, I would avoid http://www.subwaywatersports.com/Accomm ... to_bay.htm... this is on the opposite side of the island where the reefs are trashed and relatively lifeless due to heavy surf... we got fambuzled into staying there by Sudway, which recommended it... very nice place to hang out on the beach on a honey moon, but a long winding road from the best diving.

I've also made it over to Cayos Cochinos http://www.plantationbeachresort.com/... there is one sea mount that is amazing but can be done as a day trip from Roatan if the weather is good... Plantation was a nice place to stay but the diving was not as good as Roatan... notorious for poor viz.

Cozumel has some night life, but a short ferry ride will get you to playa del carmen where you will find many more single lady's dancing in the night clubs... a nice little town.
