I'm developing several articles on "retired showfish" (i.e.; marine critters past their prime who have been rescued, rather than flushed) for Sport Diver and Scuba Diving Magazine.
Utah's Bonneville Sea Base, for example, stocks a hot spring cave with refugees from Las Vegas casino aquariums, then trains divers at the site. Guam's UnderWater World shares its overstock and older animals with an aquarium-themed bar in the same mall complex. Contamination concerns often limit such "recycling," so I'm curious to track down more examples of folks making it work.
I'm on the hunt for other stories of where old, tatty or unwanted marine creatures – or display features – wind up. Given the magazine's slant, I'm especially interested in cases where divers can enjoy creatures unsuitable for display.
Does anyone know of other programs of this sort?
Help would be hugely appreciated.
Cheers, Amanda

Amanda,
Sounds like an interesting article. I haven't heard of any examples for marine life, other than what you have mentioned.
