Windows Video Editing Software

Hey vidiots,

I'm in the market for windows based video editing software. I don't have a mac at work and staying home to edit video on my mini for work has become problematic... as much as I prefer to be in my PJs during working hours.

I would buy a copy of Adobe Premier right away if it wasn't 64 bit only. I'm not ready to upgrade from XP to Win7. Change is hard.

I'm thinking about Avid's Pinnacle Studio... has anyone ever used it before?

Anyone have any thoughts on the matter that isn't "Buy a mac for work and get final cut pro"?

Thanks,

-Eric

have you looked at Ulead... I use it as do many of my friends and have always found it rather easy to use (if there is such a thing as an 'easy' video editor!) It's very feature rich and will work very well in a Windoze environment. Magix makes a good one and FWIW I've even used the MS. Movie Maker with some good results.

PapaZ and I use it for our videos. It's got some nice features. Simple to use, but you'll have to buy the effects packages separate (PITA). If your application is for mostly home use, then it will do a decent job....nothing super fancy.
I have had some issues with the software/effects not working correctly. Do a google and see what you come up with. I think the newer versions (10+) are better than 9.

Sony Vegas looks sweet but costs $600... and scares me in the way that final cut does.

The Avid Pinnacle stuffs looks about my speed and is $130.

Thanks everyone... again NWDC comes through with honest answers to stupid (non-diving) related questions.

I have Adobe Premier, but for some reason it can't handle the .avi files that my camera creates. I always have to use the media encoder to change them to .wmv before I can edit them in Premier. I'm not crazy about that...

My new casio saves videos in .MOV and I haven't found a good solution. I just downloaded a trial of this software, hoping, that it would be able to work with the .MOV files, but, I just tried to import a couple of them and they all threw back an unknown error.

Dang!

Who else thinks that Richard has a button that pastes that phrase in most of his posts?
