nope, just tried again, and the little green thinking bar filled up and stayed stuck at filled, with the whirly thinking cursor when i moused over. after hitting cancel on the photo load, and then writing some text which i submitted, it then replied that the image was invalid and wiped out the text
the photo is 7mb, but i dont know how to save it smaller....?

I'm not sure if WPG lets you downsize images. For Internet sharing, all you really need is a file that is about 800 pixels wide and 72ppi, which would only be about 1/20th the size of your full resolution file.
Not that it helps in this instance, but I'd suggest getting Photoshop Elements. Not too expensive, and has a great batch processor that let's you create smaller versions of all your files in a folder in one batch. If you get it, I'd be happy to share my workflow document explaining exactly what to do.

Right-click picture resizer for XP
Right-click picture resizer for Windows 7 (3rd party clone)
Use one of the above depending on your OS. It's a great utility because it's always there. Just right-click on an image and pick a size. Preserve or overwrite the original at your discretion.
