Starry Flounder?

Post by Chenari »

Out at EUP yesterday, I had my head down in the water as usual. And in less than five feet of water, I saw a couple of little Pacific Staghorns, and a bunch of what I believe to be Starry Flounders. I chased them for a while and only managed to get one picture out of all the critters I saw. Thankfully I believe it's decent enough for a confirmation or a different ID.

The banding on the fins does look right. I'd say it's a starry. :)

I'd say Starry as well. You saw lots of them? Wow! I think in all my dives I've seen a total of 4 or 5 and never more than one at a time. Very cool!

4th vote for Starry Flounder.

Not that it's needed in this illustrious company, of course.

Just a reason to mention that I've seen maybe one or two of these a year, and haven't seen one in a couple of years.

They sure blend in well at that size.

5th vote for a Starry Flounder!

I've seen oodles of them on one dive once at Sunnyside up around the safety stop depth. They were small ones, and sat quite still so I could get pics.
