Anonymous Mistake, "oops", or "OMG" section
Re: Anonymous Mistake, "oops", or "OMG" section
Put me down for yea. There are lots of reasons besides ego why someone might want to do such a thing anonymously, and like others, I try to see what I can take away from such stories that will help keep me and mine that much safer. Go for it.

Re: Anonymous Mistake, "oops", or "OMG" section
So would it be like take one, have people post and discuss on it, then when that thread dies move to another? They could sticky in the What Went Wrong Forum?
So what I am thinking is it doesnt even necessarily have to be "What happened to me?" but eventually, after the personal stories slow down people can also just offer "Hey this didn't happen to me per say, but I am sure interested in what people do to avoid this, or what they have done as reaction to this?"
Might be a good idea, but I also predict some clashing, sly agency advertizing, and all out different points of view. Maybe to assure people are not offended or ran off, make it an opt in with the disclaimer "Might get rough"
After the threads settle you can trim the fat and keep it up for future reading...
Could get ugly, but the end product might be useful.

Although I'm not sure how anonymous it will really be since most of us have distinct writing styles.

Wut R U talkin bout? I defiantly think U hav a point they're, but The way I see it, most of us who post enough to have a distinct righting style would *probably* just post in the open. The "anonymous" feature, the way I was thinking about it, would be for a shy and/or newer diver to maybe post about corking, or getting lost, or running out of air....in order to get some feedback and perspective that they might otherwise not get for fear of flames or embarrassment.ktb wrote:Although I'm not sure how anonymous it will really be since most of us have distinct writing styles.

Also the events would be sent to the Mods, consumed, and relayed. I think this would certainly hide who the original sender was.Joshua Smith wrote:Wut R U talkin bout? fwiw, I say give it a whirl. Those that so choose can submit anonymously, those who don't, won't.

How about an anonymous font instead. Kind of like the sarcasm font.
It would look like this:

I guess I'm in the minority here but...I guess I don't really see a need for this. I think a lot of what people perceive as "flaming" or "bashing" or whatever on this board is usually just well-meaning people who are strongly safety-minded ("You didn't have enough gas for that dive"/"a can light is the only option to stay with your buddy"/"your yellow-tip fins are going to attract sharks!" etc.) Things are more personal here, which is both good and bad. The whole "trimming the fat" thing sounds very much like another certain scuba board (*cough*) and I kind of like that this board is NOT that one...I see potential for such threads to rapidly head in the wrong direction. Plus it sounds like a lot of extra work for the mods, and I'm not sure how much there is to gain by making things anonymous, or specifying a place for "incidents".
I guess I'm going with something that was said earlier, and asking if this is a solution to a non-existent problem? Mods, you know better than I do.
