snailfish or midwater eelpout?

found this little guy freeswimming in the water column at Pt Defiance North Wall yesterday in about 17 ft of water..what is it? It kept curling into a ball..then swim...then curl into a ball again...finally ducked in between some rocks and disappeared.....
