Fort Flagler RIP

Post by Jeremy »

We had a fun exploratory dive at Fort Flagler (and The Hood Canal Bridge) today. Sorry to say the loss of the pier has really decimated the life at this site. But, if you can find the mystery reef there is still a good time to be had. We saw some GPO's and wolf eels here.

The reef can be hard to find. We had success starting at the old piling remains and heading straight out to 45 fsw. Then take a LEFT (not right as some online reviews say) and head north. You will find the reef.

The drive there and the park itself is half of the fun of this dive.

Here is a small snippet of what we saw today:

It is a crying shame what they did to that site. It was loaded with life when the pier was there and we went back a couple weeks later and it was a desert. Haven't been back since.

Ah, the twisted logic of the rabid environmentalist. It reminds me of something I heard when I was younger - "we had to destroy the village to save it...."
“Don’t pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he’ll just kill you.”

How sad. This was on my bucket list for places to drive and dive with my camper. Not sure it is worth the trip now. You probably saved me some money.
Thanks for the post,
