Next to the stormwater out flow today, there was a small, maybe 4 inch bottom fish. He was right eyed, mostly white with mid-brown fins, eyes and mouth. There were six brown spots near the tail.

Was it a color mutation or a species I cant seem to find?

I would guess it was a baby c-o sole. They are very good at changing color and are often white on top. It's not unusual for the dot in the middle to be missing.

Cool, i saw a young C-O sole this past weekend at the Alki Junkyard. Got some video of it but was hesitant to use it because wasn't 100% sure of his identification.

Thanks!!

Crazy Emily I saw that sole too at the Muk the other day. I actually got it on video once I can get it edited. It made me scratch my head too as I had never seen one...

I think its shaped differently than a c-o sole. I was dealing with those new gloves and didn't want to fight with the camera too. Im glad you got it on video.

OK, I was diving today 6/4/14 Mukilteo Lighthouse Park clay ledges and was also first puzzled by one flatfish coloration.
After comparing my picture with the latest edition of Andy Lamb "Coastal Fishes of the Pac. N.W." I conclude that it is a C O Sole.
Have a look if this is the same or similar fish you have seen.
