I am a relative scuba newbie, ( I will be completing my advanced dive cert in Mid may, completed my OW in December in the columbia river). I will be spending the last week of May and the third week of June in Vancouver CA visiting family, playing golf with friends and hopefully diving. I am looking for recommendations for groups to dive with and charters. As a single woman I'm a little leary about meeting up with someone alone and so was hoping to find some groups to dive with so that I can meet people with a modicum of safety. I'm also interested in diving on the island as I may spend the June week there.
Any and all information would be greatly appreciated.
Joanna

There's an active dive club in the Vancouver area called Pescaderos ...
http://www.pescaderosdivers.org/
I know a few of the members. Perhaps you could contact someone through their web site and see if they can offer any ideas or possibly some members to dive with you ...

Liz is on the Island, not in Vancouver.
I know very few divers in Vancouver. Whytecliff is a really nice dive though, so hopefully you can find someone to buddy up with there. Vancouver has surprisingly few dive sites, Whytecliff and Porteau Cove are the 2 main shore sites.

There's a dive shop in North Vancouver that does a weekly dive. I think on Wednesdays but I'm not sure and it could have changed anyway. Try contacting them. I've never been able to make it work to meet up for one of their dives but they are very friendly and helpful.

Aside: The article on Vancouver dives says:

Amusingly, the last time I checked, Wikipedia claimed that both Howe Sound and the Hood Canal are North America’s southernmost fjord.Howe Sound is essentially bottomless, plunging approximately 700-800 feet into North America’s southernmost fjord

Re: Vancouver BC diving recommendations
Well, Hood Canal is much farther south than Howe Sound ... but there are parts of Puget Sound that are further south than Hood Canal, and Puget Sound contains several fjords ...
