King County in partnership with Washington State Parks is in the early stages of the feasibility study for a restoration project at Saltwater State Park and is seeking public input.

Here is a link to a webpage about the project: www.kingcounty.gov/SaltwaterSP

Visit that page, and there is a link to a survey where you can provide input that will help shape the future of Saltwater State Park.

This is a fantastic opportunity to help guide the process from the early stages... As divers, if we want more diver friendly parks and better dive sites we need to make our voice heard :)

Absolutely agree. Any one of us that utilize this park for diving should take the survey. A couple areas in the survey ask for direct input, which is a fantastic place to voice your opinion on the future divability of this park

Thanks! Very cool!

One suggestion I made was to make the park available for night diving :)

It is available for night diving. Did a night dive there last Sat. The Ranger on duty was not sure about that so he 'called it in' and then let us go out but we had to leave a guy for shore support.....as if he could do any good with an emergency WAY out there. It was nice to have a light on shore when we came up though.
The gate is closed with a slider but not locked. No Ranger on duty and there are a lot of campers. (Campground is much larger than most people know about). If there is an emergency they have to be able to get out or get ER services in.

Ooh, thanks! Do you know if the situation is the same in the non-summer months?

Yes, interesting. Stephen and I were stuck outside Saltwater Park early one day as the person tasked with opening the gate was late. Another time they never did show and we went to Redondo.

I know I never got out of the car but I had assumed Stephen had checked if we could break in. I probably wouldn't have opened the gate if it was not locked. ;)

Saltwater has a bathroom, parking and benches which are all nice. I suppose they could put some sort of conveyor or rope tow to drag me out to the reef. It doesn't seem so long after having swam to Bachelor Rock.

Now there's a suggestion. Trouble is you need a porter to get the scooter out to deep enough water to engage. :tomnic:
I think I actually prefer Sunrise....by shore.

Dredge a scooter pool and channel? Kinda like Cozumel and the sites where you get in the water via the swimming pool? ;) Just combine it with the baby rockfish reef AKA dive trail...

I would vote for some kind of catapult device to help you get OUT there. What would you call that type of entry though?
