Fish hiding in a jelly

I found this interesting Egg Yolk jelly with a fish swimming around inside its bell at Monterey Bay last Saturday. The fish didn't seem to be harmed by the stinging tentacles and as you can see in the video it was actually using the body of the jelly as a way to hide from my camera. Any guesses as to the type of fish?

Some digressions:
  • A research paper that starts: "The fish-jellyfish association is regarded as a temporary symbiosis believed to protect the fishes from predators."
  • A news article and video from yesterday about a less lucky Australian fish.

Nice find!
How was the rest of the diving out there?

Hey Dan,
I've heard that juvenile Pollock (cod) are what's hiding in the tentacles of jellies in our part of the world.

Cool! judging from the size and shape, I'd say that's a likely candidate

Yesterday I was diving at Redondo when a large Lions Mane came cruising by. I checked the bell and found a Juvenile Pollock playing hide and seek in the tentacles. Here's a couple of photos, blurrier than I would like, but its clearly a Pollock. I was surprised to find this fish inside a Lions Mane, our biggest (baddest) jelly.

Dan,

I recently saw the same thing at Blakely Rock. I'd never seen this before, or maybe I never noticed it :) Image
