Skeleton Shrimp

Post by Magoi »

We did a dive this morning at the old Dickman Mill Park in Tacoma. Found the weird critter below on a piece of kelp. Thanks to Greg Jensen's excellent crab and shrimp book, I identified it as a caprellid amphipod or skeleton shrimp. It appears that the two white ovals on the kelp are part of the critter. It was about 2-2.5 inches long. There were also an unbelievable number of opalescent nudi's in the eel grass west of the pilings.
