They are encouraging divers to move critters off the pilings and over to the old barges. See below. If Ocean Quest, Bandito and others with private boats want to team up and do a joint rescue operation on September 3rd that might be a fun and productive venture.
Richard
"Marine Life Salvage Opportunity in the Maury Island Aquatic Reserve

The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is partnering with King County Parks to remove a derelict creosote-treated pier and its associated structures from the shoreline fronting the Maury Island Natural Area. Creosote-treated pilings leach toxic chemicals into Puget Sound’s waters long after their useful lifespan. Removing these materials helps restore habitat for salmon, herring, forage fish, and other species by eliminating the source of toxins that would otherwise persist in the food web. This project will remove 150 derelict creosote-treated piles and 2,000 square feet of overwater structure, restoring important shoreline habitat located in DNR’s Maury Island Aquatic Reserve.

The local dive community has expressed an interest in salvaging marine life, such as anemones and starfish, from pilings slated for removal. Given the proximity of an artificial reef that functions as a local dive site, there is an opportunity for interested divers to salvage and transfer marine life to the nearby dive site. Please see the attached map for the salvage and transfer locations.

Demolition will begin on September 6th, with marine contracting equipment mobilizing to the site as early as September 5th. Divers must stay out of the area when equipment is present. Divers are advised that the structures slated for removal are derelict and any salvage efforts are conducted at a diver’s own risk.

This effort has been approved by the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife; no transfer permits or collector’s permits were necessary. For additional information, please contact: Jordanna Black at (253) 880-6612 or Jordanna.black@dnr.wa.gov.

I have a boat that can handle 3 to 3-1/2 divers for sure, maybe 4. Available on the 3rd if anyone wants to go.

Once I get a list of boats and bodies we can finalize a plan :)
I usually launch out or Redondo or Point Defiance for this site. Either works for me.

Sounds good. I live close to Redondo but if it's windy then Pt. Defiance is a better option.

CaptnJack can add both you and Eric to the list? You can come along with me.

If my boat isn't needed and there is room, I would like to go with the Banditos.

I'm in! See you all there!

Oh, it would be great if someone would buddy up with me to make sure I don't kill myself, since I'm a newb. Chris is not going to be around that weekend.

I reserved a spot on the Sampan also. If there are divers wanting to go and need a boat then we can figure it out.

I know many of us do not handle/touch critters. So any recommendations on removal and transport? I'm thinking we may want to run a guideline to make it more efficient. Then use a muck stick or even a plastic spatula to gently remove the critters. Then transport them in a catch bag or basket. Thoughts? Ideas?

from the map it looks like there might be shore access- anyone know if one could get in there during the week?

I will send a pm to those who have reserved a spot. I have received some info from a marine biologist.

Greg - I have been told there is a road at the top of the "park" area, but I don't know how the access is.

what type of bag are we thinking? Large mesh? Gallon plastic? I'm newb enough that I doubt I should be carrying around a giant gunny sack for this delicate operation.
