what is this yellow stuff???

i thought it was some kind of coral, but it has valves so i'm not really sure what it might be. any hints would be helpful! :-) (this was in a patch on the possession point wall.)

groan... There are very few things more boring than counting yellow boring sponge... yawn. I'm bored already just thinking about how boring the boring sponge are.

I count all the sponges in 1 square foot, then make an estimate based on the area covered. Tends to be a fairly good way to get a reasonably accurate count.

Trouble is, looking at all those yellow sponges causes a song to enter my head... "Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?..." #-o

Hood Canal Oxygen Depletion Surveys - Our own Janna and ? coordinates dives surveying specific areas of the Hood, counting any and every living thing in a specific grid. The data is then collected used in ongoing studies monitoring the health of the Hood. A very good thing, with lots of folks donating time and what they can in the project. Hard work, but worth it.

That's my novice version of things, but gives you the general idea.

Why not just take a photo and count them later??? :book:

lol. that's what i do for some of my critter id's; not sure it'd work for counting them all, though!
