Some form of plankton?
Some form of plankton?
Last night at Redondo, viz seemed worse than normal. In addition to the normal summer goop, there was non-sand particulate that sorta looked like mud that clouded things up. Looking through my photos, I found that I got some of that particulate in focus as well as you could for something the small. At least sharp enough to make out the basic cylindrical structure. Anyone have a clue what these things are?

Hi Derek,
I've always called them Disk Diatoms. There are probably multiple species, but that's way beyond my pay grade.
Algally yours,
Alex
