All that wood and bark at Redondo in the bottle field is bugging me lately. It's creating an anaerobic dead zone. It seems like there's more and more of it lately. I really wish there was a way we can clean it up. Any ideas on how we can do that?

This is also a problem with the thousands of logs at the bottom of the bay in Port Angeles. The logs may have been rafted-in to feed the paper mill or saw mills, and a certain percentage of them sink. It's changed the chemistry of the bay.

Parts of Port Townsend bay are hand-deep in old wood chips, apparently from the local paper mill. It may be less of an issue here because the bay is tidally flushed regularly, but I don't know of any actual studies about it -- or that anyone is aware of the problem. I suspect this could be mitigated by covering the wood chip barges with some netting or something to keep the chips from blowing away during windy weather.

The Driftwood Ponds are also affected by the rotting driftwood .

I wish we could get an underwater vacuum to suck them up... it's so sad to see that dead zone down there :(
