I have no idea, but.....it's a pretty good haul from Austin to the Gulf- I don't think you could just duck down there after work or anything.

I moved here from Austin about 1 year ago. The dive scene here is MUCH bigger, but there still are plenty of people to hook up with down there. Only 2-3 local dive sites worth visiting, and most people tend to stick to Lake Travis. Not a bad place, but viz is always under 10' (2' on a bad say). Luckily the lake is deep, so you can do 100' dives if you want to (and feel comfortable with the viz).
The gulf is another option, but it's about 3-4 hours down there and the liveaboard situation is rather...unique (longest liveaboard from land anywhere). You leave on a Friday, motor through the night, dive the Flower Gardens and Stetson Sat and Sun, and then return Sunday night. About 400 for the weekend if I recall.
Best dive shop in the area is Austin Aqua Sports IMHO

lundysd hit it pretty close on the head. Two site's I've done is Windy point and Mansfield Dam State Park. Both dives have some ski boats, WP has a wave runner chined to the bottom which is fun to play on. They also have a TV and loundge chairs set up, makes for a good photo. There is all so some diving in close rivers and quarries.
If you are staying in south-west Austin, Oak Hill Scuba is a good shop
