A Weighty Issue
A Weighty Issue
Since there's been some discusson on how much weight to wear, I thought it would be fun to see how much weight we all wear.
Okay, tell us:
Type of suit you dive (shell dry, neoprene dry, wetsuit, naked)
Amount of weight you dive with
Your weight range---Light: 125lbs-175; Mid: 175-235; Heavy: 235+
Your favorite beer.

I dive in a shell/tri-lam drysuit;
I wear:
12 pounds with doubles (6 backplate, 3 can light, 1 argon bottle, and 2 in bags; note two 100hp steel tanks),
22 pounds with single (difference in set-up: 6 single tank adapter, and 6 in bags; note one 100hp steel tank);
I normally weigh between 170 - 175 pounds; and
I love Mac-N-Jacks African Amber. But, if Red Hook still made Ballard Bitter (not that IPA Ballard Bitter stuff), that would be my number 1.

Neoprene dry
Still working on it-when I get my own steel tanks, I'll be better able to pinpoint it, but last time I dove a stl 120: 24 integrated + 8 belt + 4 on ankle weights = 36 (might've been too much, though-felt like I sank like a stone.)
Mid (220)
Patron on the rocks (beer's fine, but liquor is quicker)

Trilam, dry, 400 weight undergarment.
Total 26 pounds with single rig, steel tank, 12 in doubles.
Light to mid weight range, 185 (mid is 235?!?!?!?! Let's be honest with ourselves here . . . )
Add five pounds to the above totals if I'm diving my compressed neo suit.
[EDIT] Anchor Steam, draft, if I can find it.

6'1" 185 lbs
119 cf SS tank
shell suit with multiple polar fleece undergarments
27 lbs including BP (22 waistbelt+5lb BP)
This is an interesting thread for two reasons. There is a remarkable similarity with common equipment/body sizes regardless of the exact undergarment. My numbers seem the same as Doug's for instance even though I have more layers of Polar Fleece than he does I'm sure.
Lynne's stats are also interesting and are the exception. Given her size (5'4" 120 lbs) she uses almost the same weight as I do and yet I'm sure she has done weight checks and found that is the amount required for her. Just goes to show there are exceptions to everything.
