Subject: Ocean Shores
So much for swimming near Ocean Shores, Wa. which is on the north side of Gray's Harbor at Aberdeen.
OCEAN SHORES,WA
While the ocean vessel 'Dawn Raider' was commercial fishing for dogfish, this Great White was hooked in the mouth but only resisted slightly for 15 minutes before it came up alongside the boat to have a look; long enough for one of the crew members to slip a rope around it's tail !!! The Shark took off towing the 42 foot fishing boat backwards through the water at about 7 knots. Just like in JAWS, the boat was taking on water over the stern and the crew watched in horror as the shark would actually jump completely out of the water at times. This went on for an hour before the shark finally drowned. She weighed in at 1035 LBS. It is suspected she followed a weak El Nino current into local waters in search of food.&nbs p; Although mid 60 degree water is considered ideal for these sharks, the larger ones can tolerate water in the low 50s.

Wow!
Do you have a link to the news story? Did this just happen? Seems like this is the type of story that would get some coverage.

That's ok, been there, done that myself. Many moons ago I suffered a major embarrassment when I forwarded (w/o checking the validity) an outrageous but bogus political story to EVERYONE on my email address book. Man, the nasty-grams I got back! One person was nice enough to point me in the direction of Snopes. It's now my bible, I check everything on it, and even if it's true, I still don't pass it on.Tom Nic wrote:Thanks for the Snopes link.

Wow...a great white in our waters. Still, very sad that it suffered for so long.

While this particular article was "stuff and nonsense", if you go through the International Shark Attack File you will discover that Washington DID in fact have a shark attack by a Great White Shark years ago. It happened at Pacific Beach, which is just north of Ocean Shores and south of Moclips. The victim, a surfer, survived the attack.

There was a huge Great White caught in WA waters in the late 60s. The story of the guy who saved the carcass and really wanted an aquarium to stuff it is posted at the Seattle Aquarium (which didn't exist back then). By the time the Aquarium was founded in the 70s the carcass had deteriorated (even though frozen) to the point where it wasn't usable. So there's a replica hanging from the ceiling outside the coral reef exhibits. Story and pictures are posted on the wall.
Did you guys read about the guy in Monterey who survived a shark attack because of dolphins? Isn't that crazy?
