BIG Worm!

This guy was at least two feet long. We found him on our surface swim in after a night dive at the Monterey breakwater. He was swimming in a sort of spiraling motion, like a corkscrew or something, I don't know how else to describe it. In our lights, he was mesmerising. I can't help wondering if Leslie is on this board? Anybody else who knows what he is can chime in, of course...

(Sounder makes a note to himself - do not use p-valve in Monterey) :pale:

Dave, I don't think Leslie is on this board.

I posted it on the other board as well, but she hasn't responded so far.

Leslie travels a lot, maybe she is hunting for worms in tropical waters ... :)

If that's the case, then I'm really jealous!

The funny part is, she does not dive ! She is worm expert invited on expeditions, but somewhere I read that she is not certified diver. Well, maybe by now she is ...

leslie has said that most worms can't be positively ID'd to a species level without having the worm in hand.

Therefore, she doesn't need to dive. She would do most of her IDing in a lab with a specimen and a microscope.

BTW - Milton Love, the Rockfish expert, is also not a diver. He does get underwater, in a submersible, and can get to deeper depths than any of us could ever hope to get to.
