Seacrest Clean-up Party, April 20, Sunday

Post by RDW »

This is a small clean-up project Sponsored by the Marker Buoys to help with the appearance of a favorite dive site.

Seacrest Pier and Park.
It's one of a few "Earth Day" projects on the agenda

OK...I wuld like to get there by 10am this SUNDAY to set-up. I am still trying to get city permission to go inside the “forbidden zone” to conduct clean-up ops.
I should know for sure by this morning.

Two phase plan:

Phase One:
Clean the rope,
move the cinder blocks to better support the rope,
ADD more blocks on the Cove 2 side.
If anybody wants to donate some cement blocks, bring two each.
There are at least four of them sitting loose around the site.
Ref the plastic bottles:
I propose that all of the existing bottles and the stack of old unused ones (piled on the bottom)
be completely removed. The plastic is deteriorating and some have broken loose.
By adding more blocks to better define the line, there is a plan to add commercial net floats that will not sink or go bad in the water. This (along with the blocks) will increase the visibility of the boundary. It’s only critical on the Cove 2 side for now.

Phase Two (if given the OK):
Using buckets and goodie bags, clean the area around the pier of trash. Remove plastic debris, old fishing lures, lines (be careful!!) and metal cans. This would include the dive areas as well. We’ll concentrate on Cove 2 for now.
Every diver must have two cutting devices. I would really recommend shears and a very sharp knife.

The tide this Sunday is one of a big exchange. Seacrest will just fine.

All help both topside and divers will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Randy Williams

Quick Update:

Yes, we have permission to conduct covert cleaning ops under the pier at Seacrest.
(bring your sneaky black drysuits) Just kidding!
The SPD Harbor folks will officially let us access the joint for a few hours.
At the same time, we need teams also working on the boundary line and picking up trash in the area too.
Thanks!
