BP Setup & Hog Adjust

Post by diver-dad »

\:D/
Got my brand new, shiny BP & STA in the mail yesterday - and now I've been looking at online tips & instructions for adjusting the Hog harness on my BP (a first-time for me).
:book:
I've looked at a number of sites that have what sounds like pretty decent instructions, including the following....
http://www.halcyon.net/manuals/Halcyon_ ... l05web.pdf
https://www.deepseasupply.com/index.php ... structions
http://www.sduadivers.com/resources/200 ... d-harness/
http://dir-diver.com/en/equipment/backp ... stment.prn

OK, so threading the webbing through everything is pretty straight forward, as is getting the rig roughly adjusted and properly placing the D-rings.

However, no one I dive with over here has experience with BPs, so I'm interested to know if you folks have any other thoughts, advice, or lessons learned that would help me out, esp with understanding how to fine-tune the fit and how the rig is supposed to feel on your body when properly adjusted - both on land and in the water?

Thanks folks!

Biggest thing, IMO, is to avoid going too tight in the shoulders. I see a lot of people with their shoulder straps too tight. The waist strap and the crotch strap is what really makes it snug.

My shoulder straps are adjusted so that I can "chicken wing" into and out of them. I think I originally adjusted them without any other equipment, and then I made minor adjustments with the rest of my gear on. As far as how it feels, My DSS feels like a comfortable cotton T-shirt, both in and out of the water! You've got some good reference material there, so you'll have it dialed in no time!

Congratulations on your new RIG!

You should be able to easily reach the top of your plate with either hand. Top of the plate just below the big bump on the back of your neck.

Size it with your suit and undergarment on, unless your gonna dive in a T-shirt.

Extra room with the shoulder straps, mine used to be too tight, my new webbing fits better and lets me move my arms around. Your going to be diving face down so don't worry how it feels when you are standing in the livingroom.
