some new finds i thought i would share.the top one is a milk bottle ken found the other is one i found today, ken also found a very similar one but i dont have a pic. hopefully he can post a better pic of the milk bottle, there are some very cool details on it.

ken is hooked on bottle finding too, after this weekend on the black dragon we are going back to do some more digging. you should join.

Here are a few shots I took. I could spend all day down there looking for bottles.

I would love to tumble the milk bottle to clean it up. No idea on age of either

I've found a few (what I thought were) cool bottles, but I haven't done any research on them yet. They weren't nearly as cool as those though.

Nice finds, can I ask where you found them? The dairy bottle dates from no later than the 1930s. That's when they stopped using the embossed labeling. Here's one of my finds:

You may not ask where they were found Just kidding, that's from deadwwod the HBO show. I hooked on that show. anyway Ken don't tumble the bottle they are worth more if there are left in the condition you find them. the antique road show told me that. I'll join you too. I have deco gas waiting and think its sounds like a Monday morning dive before work. what do youthink? Or how about tonight? I have yet to find a Bottle i haven't emptied myself.

iam sorry to say im a little hesitant to post out here where we find them. the area mostly starts just beyond recreational limits and to spend some quality time looking puts you into deco real quick. not trying to be a jerk.

I don't mind at all. A little mystery adds to the romance.
Nothing is stopping others from doing their own searches.

This is a topic I've wondered about. Is it irresponsible to openly discuss dives that are beyond the typical recreational range? Will you somehow be advocating or tempting less experienced divers into doing something they shouldn't? Or are others responsible for knowing their own limitations?

I am of the opinion that we are all responsible for our own actions, especially as divers, but I'm open to other opinions. Thoughts?

(And I won't tell you where I find my bottles but it's not because of deco issues, I just don't want others grabbing my booty! You'll have to come with me.)

Not at all! Just make it clear that the dives are beyond rec depths and that additional training is needed to do them.

You are correct that personal responsibility rests with the individual, and people can and will make their own decisions. But please do try to avoid making dangerous and irresponsible dive behavior sound like fun (whoa dude, we did a bounce dive to 200 fsw on an aluminum 80! W00t!). That's the only thing that's really frowned upon.

awesome collection 60south!! i have heard there is some great bottle hunting up by you, id love to come out for a hunt soon.

and i truly believe in everyone being responsible for themselves as well, and i dont think it is irresponsible to talk about it maybe a thread for the "tech forum". i tell you what next time we go out i will try to get some better markers of where some of the stashes are and depths also. right now we go to a general area and dig away, which reminds me you have to be ready for some big time silting since most of the good ones are under the mud.

I think Howard nailed it - it's *close* to rec-depths, but a little deeper. That could be tempting for someone who shouldn't be down there and I him.

People are definitely responsible for themselves, but don't dangle a forbidden cheeseburger infront of someone who is really hungry - they might just try to eat it.

FWIW - I found a bottle in Cove 3 at about 70fsw that was pretty cool. "Piso's Cure for Consumption" - a cannibus/alcohol cure for TB after narcotics/opium became more heavily regulated. The bottle was in amazing shape and now sits on my Mom's kitchen window.

70 fsw? I dunno, dude. For a brand-new OW diver, who's only rated to 60, that might be pretty tempting......

Going with what I read. With the mention of "putting you into deco real quick," I assume he's not talking about OW limits, and instead is talking about AOW limits (130fsw).

I was just kidding around- yeah, the spot Howard's talking about is around 155-165 fsw- definitely not a rec dive.

I found my first "cool" bottle when Joe and I joined Jake on a lake dive at the sunken forest. It's a small brown bottle kind of like the one in 60souths photo. I never tried to figure out what it was because there are no clear markings on it.

That's ok, the first rule of artifact hunting is do not broadcast the site. Just to know that it's beyond recreational limits is enough for me.

It would be just plain dumb to advertise where you find your booty! Unfortunately, there are some very greedy people out there who will do very stupid things to get at it. Even if it was a site that was easy pickins and relatively safe, still don't broadcast it. Stingy is good, IMO. Ok to share privately with trusted individuals, but never advertise. I was expecting just a PM, but like I said, to know that it's beyond recreational limits is enough for me.
