:dontknow: Anyone? :smt064
:smt024 =Jacques Cousteau claimed that the Georgia Strait's emerald waters were "second only to the Red Sea". Rodale's Scuba Diving Magazine has ranked British Columbia as the "Best Overall Dive Site In The World" for three years running. The area around Lund offers dozens of dive/snorkelling sites, from huge vertical walls, to wrecks over 100 feet long, and shallow reefs teaming with marine life.

Sounds like a great place to dive! Please give us a report after you dive there! :bounce: :bounce: :salute:

Yes, well sort of.
Powell River area and a boat to the inside Sound.
Here's a referenc link: http://www.psdivers.com/reviewpost/show ... all&page=1

Alpha dive Severices,
http://www.divepowellriver.com
Kathy & Scott, is the dive shop up there. There is a nice shore dive at the jetty near the lumber mill, and others by boat if you let them know. Let them know you're coming up to make sure they will be there.
http://www.divepowellriver.com/divesites.html

Also, don't forget the Mermaid dive at the State park, something to check off the dive list. There's a wall a little further past the Mermaid.

I happen to like Powell River and it's pretty much unexplored or not as well travelled as Campbell River etc.
Here some photos from the last trip several years ago. Hope that helps, look forward to seeing some photos when you all get back. I still want head up there again this year... 2009 dive campout etc..

Sorry for the rough links, I can never get the URL link to work correctly.

cheers..

Dude! great pictures! =D>
I told the guys here at work that I finally found an actual Mermaid, complete with "bumpy things." You should have seen them come running to my computer! :laughing3: They were greatly dissapointed, but I got a good laugh out of it! :supz:
Looks like a great place to dive.

LOL... Yah, and notice where the "Barnacles are NOT showing..." just divers doing the diver thing...

Anyway, it's a great place to dive, just needs some exploring to find the sites. Reportedly cloud sponges in the middle of the Channel as big as Volkswagens... But Kathy & Scott would know where that is... beautiful country too...
Hope that helps..

We went up there last October to dive the Capilano and Gulf Stream off our boats. I'd say the shore diving up there is pretty damn good, even though I haven't done it.

My guess is fall/winter may be the best time in terms of vis, with there being blooms in the spring/summer like down here. When we were there vis was probably 100 feet. Epic.

Pick up Betty Pratt Johnson's book.
http://www.bettypratt-johnson.com/index.html

She lists a bunch of resources for that area. In general shore diving is so-so up in the Sunshine Coast area. Access is just not that plentiful and the Powell River strech has numerous road to shoreline issues. The best points/reefs/walls/wrecks etc. are pretty much inaccessible from the car. A kayak or private boat is almost required. There are a few charter companies and also some water taxis.

Cold?? Cold you say???
Cold is relative eh????

I go up to the Sunshine coast, now Egmont (Kal & Ann's retreat - Strong Water)
http://www.porpoisebaycharters.com/new_page_1.htm
every year for the past 10 years or so for Thanksgiving, ours in Nov. The air Temp is cold, sometimes snows, water temp stays pretty much the same so with your normal Dry suit set up you should be fine.
Pics of last trip here:

If camping then dress warmly. I'd email Kathy & Scott and check with them, but it might be little colder, Fall Winter eh? on the outside camping but the water time wil be about the same, maybe a little colder, but current Dry suit setting should work fine...

Hope that helps...

I ask because I went to Hornby Island in September and for some reason froze my butt off and this is more north than Hornby ... We will have a nice big house on the water- No camping for this girl!! So it should be nice- its just trying to pick the right week to go ...

oops... well if you froze at Hornsby.. LOL...
I doens't get any warmer further nother later in the season. The water should be a little colder, maybe 1-2 degrees depending, but it's Dry Suit diving. You might get away with a wetsuit for one dive, it's the outside air that will get ya... call them, they'll have a better idea.
good luck and have fun... we're doing Mukilteo T-doc tomorrow to kick off the new year...in the rain no less.. heheh..

Wetsuit, what is a wetsuit? JK I think my Problem at Hornby was the inside of my suit got little wet - it was just cool & damp enough that it never really dried out. I now have a suit dryer that I LOVE (thanks Blacktoe) and I will never leave home without again!! I also got a battery powered vest for xmas that keeps me toasty now- I think I need to change my name to
"Spoiled-diver" :smt038

You should be fine..
Have fun...

ps. Blacktoe dryer...
hmmm... do you have a web link??

Yikes??? only 6?? WWW dives...

You need to get your Dive Buddy to haul yo'self down there, anywhere and then!!! you can start complaining about how cold it is up here...

Hehheh.. BlackToe... and here I thought it was a company... which it is... but over in the UK and they deal with warming stuff..

Anyway, hope that helps, have a good one. and post the diving experience from Lund. I will be going back up there sometime. hopefully this year... camping though... at the Mermaid park...

You should probably do that dive if nothing else, just to say you did it and also as an excuse to do the Caymen Islands? (not sure of the location, probably another island) and visit her (mermaid's ) sister... in Warm Water that is... they are apparently facing each other around the world..

Good luck... fp
