Nope....not "rather generic" at all....the two largest tech training agencies worldwide, TDI and IANTD, use distinctly different terminology, but that is neither here nor there. My point, and the only point that I was making, is that divers in the Pacific Northwest have a large variety of excellent technical dive training readily available to them. Divers interested in tech training should investigate all possibilities and not just assume that there is only one way. Each agency offers training that is different than what the others offer - sometimes amazingly different.

The tech instructors here in the Northwest, of all agencies, are simply outstanding. Whether divers select GUE, IANTD, NAUI, TDI or UTD they will receive excellent, high quality training. Smart divers interested in technical dive training will analyze what their own goals and preferences are, and then investigate each agency, instructor and course outline to make certain that they will be following the training path that is best for them.

I'll give scottsax the benefit of the doubt that he's not confused by sockmonkey's choice of words. :80sdance:

Whew! I'm so glad! I was worried! :smt064

However, many other divers might actually benefit from reading this thread as well.

Boys!

Open Water, Rec 1, Scuba Diver.....

Tech 1, Phase 1, Advanced Nitrox, Deco procedures......

Bears, Beets, Battlestar Galactica....

While I do agree that anymore it seems like "Tech 1" seems to be becoming the catch all phrase for the first level of tech training (long before UTD came along), just as "open water" is typically a reference to the beginner scuba class, John's right...there are plenty of great technical instructors in the area, from every agency.

It's the responsibility of the aspiring technical diver to research the training options available to him/her, and decide which class best fits their goals and needs and they'll have no shortage of options in this area, from Tech 1 to Advanced Nitrox to Lemon Wedge Trimix.

(I'd still like to know which bear is best)

Not being one to un-hijack my own thread...I got my regs yesterday! :breakdance:

One SP MK20/G250 and a Salvo spg.

So, when I take it in for service, I need to replace the hp hose on the spg (has a crack). 6" hose, right?

Now, in reading dir-diver.com, I see that for swivel 1st stages, I should use a 36" hose on the 2nd stage. My question is-is the swivel a potential failure point, and if so, can it be removed? Should I then go up to a 40" hose?
I'm going to look like a moose on rollerskates. -airsix
... my Mom caught me fenestrating once. -lavachickie
And I get so tired of fainting and peeing all over myself when the hammer falls on an empty chamber! -Nailer

You're going, "DIR" but you're not going to a long hose with a bungeed back up?

Don't worry about the swivel. Don't worry about 36 inch versus 40 inch hose . . . you'll be fine with both.

Cool. I'm just going to replace the hoses anyway-it seems like a good thing to do on used gear. I'll do a 40" hose, since I'm tall...
