Can you help me with my zipper?

Post by sheahanmcculla »

Hey boys and girls, quick question. Where can I get my zipper fixed on my BCD? It broke off in Hawaii, and I would like to get it fixed. All the teeth are good, just the zipper dohicky thing broke.

Any ideas?

Thanks

You might take a look at Seattle Fabrics,

http://www.seattlefabrics.com/zippers.h ... %20sliders

They might have what you need.

Good Luck!

Depending on the brand and where you bought it you might be able to get it replaced free or at a reduced price. If your real handy you might be able to fix it. Check your local canvas shops. They might have one that you can get or they Might replace it for you but that could be pricey cause most have a minimum labor charge that is not cheap.

If not it's a good time to look at a BP/wing! LOL

Beat ya to it Sounder! :smt064 :smt064

DSS Torus wings don't have zippers, and don't really need them. In addition to top-shelf external quality, the bladder material used in DSS wings is almost twice as thick as traditional bladders.

...but he wasn't asking and a bp/w. :wedgie: :smt064

+1 for contacting the manufacturer first, then checking out Seattle fabrics.

I broke a zipper thingy on a wetsuit and was able to fix it... ok, what I really mean is I was able to get the parts and have my mother fix it. She's quite the sewing ninja and she used special nylon thread, black of course. :koolaid:

Yeah, my mommy had to fix my wetsuit. :binkybaby:

Anyway, it was do-able by someone who knew what they were doing. If the manufacturer can't do it, I would go straight to a seamstress and see what they say. They may or may not be able to help though - it takes a heavy-duty machine. KME Drysuits might be another resource - I dunno. :chat:

So you have to rip the old teeth out? I just figured they had a tool that could put the new handle part on. Dang this is more complicated then I thought.

Well found this on youtube and is kinda what I was thinking. I am sure most fabric stores sell these zippersliders.

If for some reason you don't feel comfortable replacing a zipper slide I highly recommend Rainy Pass Repair in Fremont. They do top notch repair for outdoor gear (REI sends them lots of warranty work).

Sheahan, post a pick of what's wrong, maybe I'm miss understanding the issue.

If I am interpretting what you wrote correctly, was it just the zipper pull that broke and not the zipper itself? If so, just use a ziptie to make a loop to fashion a new one. It ain't pretty, but it works just fine. I did that on my weight pocket on my Zeagle about 6 years ago, and it's still going strong.
