Anytime I've ever seen them they were singles. Nothing lately.

Yep, those are the ones! I think these pics have longer tentacles, so you don't see that patterning like you did in your most recent photo.

Re: Fish hiding in a jelly
Hey Dan,
I've heard that juvenile Pollock (cod) are what's hiding in the tentacles of jellies in our part of the world.

Re: Sund Rock Invertibrate
Yup. There are two types that we call "Plumose Anemone" typically. One, the really tall, obvious one, is Metridium farcimen. The second, much smaller one, is the one you've got there, and it's Metridium senile. There is a real geometric pattern that stands out to me, that the tentacles for...

Re: North Carolina wreck diving
This is fantastic! I have taught fish and invert courses for that region so it was fun going through your video identifying all the critters. I've only dove there twice. Two dives on the Indra, also out of Beaufort. Great area.

Re: Crab ID and Anemone ID
Hi Carl! I'd say your crab is Pugettia gracilis, the Graceful Kelp Crab. It's found in kelpy areas, and it's a bit of a decorator crab, often attaching kelp to itself. Your anemone-looking thing is an Orange Sea Cucumber (yeah, the long body is tucked away among the rocks hidden out of view). Cucume...

GPO, Deep sponges/cold water corals in Tahsis, Vancouver Island, BC
We recently went on a dive adventure to Tahsis, BC, a little village west of Gold River (and Campbell River) on Vancouver Island. We took the Tsawassen ferry and landed at Duke Point, then spent a day diving in the Nanaimo area (Madrona Point, Tyee Cove). The next day we drove to Tahsis. There is a ...

My first thought based on the shape and positioning of the eyes was Roughback.

Re: Friday Harbor air fills?
Friday Harbor Labs has their own airfill station, and no-one but their own scientific divers are able to use it.
There are NO airfill stations on any of the islands currently. Closest air is in Anacortes.
Basically - BYOT!

Would you believe your worm-like thing is a WORM?
Andy Lamb's Big Book of Slimy Things calls it a Jointed Three-Section Tubeworm.
They can be up to 19" long.

Don't feel bad - many of those were found NOT doing nearshore diving. There's no way we could see that many species because we are limited to diving depths.

Re: Canon G9
I've also upgraded and am ready to part with the Ikelite housing and the Canon G9 camera, but have no clue where to sell it (who'd want it? It's pretty old!) or if I should just attempt to sell the camera on eBay and chuck the housing. Am also considering donating it to a marine science center or sc...

Re: Please report any sightings on Yellow Eye & Canary Rockfish in Puget Sound
Nice shot! Yeah, they are cute. That will likely grow up to be a Quillback Rockfish, possibly a Copper. Kind of hard to tell from this angle and at this stage.
