Re: Monkey diving! (OK to hijack) (OK2H)

glad you got it dialed in!!!! That also sounds like a tow cord length issue... where did you hurt? Wrist or subscapular or forearm? You should be able to just slide the tow cord a little to compensate for moderate nose up/nose down-ness. But yes, a perfectly dialed in scooter ROCKS! ;) :eric: :eric:...

Re: How many tanks is too many?

Either they dive too (not yet), have their own ridiculous hobbies that involve tree stands, guns and subzero temperatures (check), or they just love you THAT much to put up with all the dive gear ebbing and flowing from the spare room into the living room back into the spare room, into the living ro...

I have been under the impression that the red/brown/burgendy ones were female and the green/blue/purple ones were male, not sure if this is correct but some fish person told me that once a long long time ago :)

Helium fill in your little Dil bottle ain't no $55 ;) (course the rest of the meg to use that little dil bottle = cha-ching) Air = $7 to see a lot of cool stuff for 30 minutes. Followed by a long break. Nitrox = $12 to see a lot of cool stuff for 70 minutes. Followed by a short break. Rinse and repe...

i remember being told outright that i was gonna kill my stupid self, by someone who is now a very active extended range diver.

Re: Techreational

this debate is why I thought long ago that we should get rid of the descriptive term "technical" diving. Take IT for example... Someone who works in IT can be classified as "technical" or "non-technical". Its very clear the delineation between the two. There is not that...

Re: Techreational

we coined the term 18 years ago to describe basically everything most of us in dubs, ccr , etc are doing for 'recreation'. . You were diving CCR 18 years ago? :axe: oh, i'm sorry, my first ccr dive was in 1994 so i guess thats only 15 years. i was not referring to then, i was referring to now with ...

we coined the term 18 years ago to describe basically everything most of us in dubs, ccr, etc are doing for 'recreation'. techincal diving is a term i save for those pushing the envelope, but are not doing it for real scientific purpose or work. i would call myself a techreational diver now, i dive ...

Re: New thought on a rescue technique, for discussion - NHZ

I'm glad loanwolf posted this... That was the one thing that came to mind when reading everything as well: Swim him around the big ripraff (I assume when you are saying rocks that is where he was, straight in from the honeybear) Get him to the beach. IN this case, the minute the weight belt and gear...

Hood Canal, Sund Rock (north wall, south wall, wreck, everywhere in between)

3-5 up shallow, 5 to maybe 8 on the outside at depth, 2-3 on the wall where it was stirred up.

Surreal how fish come out of nowhere straight at you with no warning when its that murky and you are on a 'breather ;)

Just to confuse things a bit, the megalodon BMCL are coming soon... I saw a set in the water a few weeks back, Jerry has posted about them as well on rebreather world. I really really like the looks of them. It will all depend on how they breath. They are unlike anything else on the market that i kn...

Re: the "stroke mix'?

FWIW, I have not seen a study showing a marked difference in 100% vs 80% for 'emergency' use. Either would be better than room air. A 100% O2 bottle is "the norm" because that is what is most readily available in the health care arena and on O2 kits with a demand regulator, oxygen mask/non...

Re: the "stroke mix'?

There has been a lot of randomness as to why different groups of divers used 80/20. When I started tech diving we did not have an O2 compatible booster pump. We used old low pressure steel 72's as deco bottles. If you have 3 O2 bottles in your banks (one almost empty, one mid range full, one mostly ...
