My guesses are:
1) Quillback
2) Copper
3) Copper or Brown - hard to tell at this stage of the game
This is a great quiz topic!

Re: Programs
There are some of us that don't use any photo-enhancing software, preferring to use only unaltered images. It's simply a philosophical choice to try to get the best pictures possible with our cameras and skill. (And I'm certainly not suggesting that my pictures are fantastic, as I don't get very ma...

Re: what car would make a good dive car? yes-- this is gear :)
which kind of cars [not truck] would make a good dive car and to the slopes in the winter? I bought a used E320 4matic wagon for exactly those reasons (and to transport my little girl safely too). Unlike most of the wagons these days, it doesn't have the swoopy roofline which steals useful space in...

Re: Is it time to switch it up?
I think what you've noticed is the very same reasoning behind my diving wetsuit/drysuit about 50/50. The drysuit setup just isn't as much fun as the wetsuit - it enables a certain kind of diving that I couldn't practically manage in a wetsuit, but when it comes down to it my favorite dives are playi...

Re: Need help w/ OR Coast marine buoy info
Don't forget the depth datum in the US is mean low water. (mean lower low water in Canuck land - almost all in meters up there too). Realistically, plan on a 13 fathom sounding being a ~90ft dive or deeper depending on how isolated it is. I hadn't forgotten. I would love to dive it sometime but it ...

Re: Good crabbing?
I've never had much luck crabbing "on the fin"... Some of that is no doubt being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I had visions of eating crab all the time when I started diving - a vision which, alas, has not yet materialized! Everything I've heard about a scooter tells me that is T...

Re: Need help w/ OR Coast marine buoy info
Sorry - nothing useful to add regarding buoy data. I want to ask a vaguely related question... what is Stonewall Bank like? Anyone got a dive report or photos to share? I have to think it might be absolutely amazing. No doubt it would be amazing, but it is also deep, most of it is beyond rec depths...

Re: Report Derelict Fishing Gear!!!
Yes indeed, I followed up with Jeff . Thanks Simon - seemed like there was some confusion here and I wanted to be sure that none of the nets were being accidentally overlooked as a result. The photos you posted really do make a strong case for removal of derelict gear - can't imagine a better way o...

Re: Tank Questions....
AL80's make great Deco tanks. Interesting - what is it about Al80s that makes them desirable for the purpose? AL80s don't hang on you like boat anchors. An AL80 full of EAN is about -4lbs with a reg on it. An lp85 steel would be about -8lbs. Empty the Al80 is about +1 with the reg. LP85 about -3. M...

Re: Report Derelict Fishing Gear!!!
At this point, I've only served as a coordinator though in the near future we'll be doing more active scouting/targeting runs. The hero on this one is Doug Steding who provided a very accurate description of exactly how and where to find the nets so the recovery divers wouldn't have to search. Turn...

Re: Report Derelict Fishing Gear!!!
Just a quick update on this: Last week the Northwest Straits Derelict Gear Team returned to Sares Head to check out some other possible targets in the area that resulted from Doug's report noted above. They found several more nets, including a very new and very lethal gillnet hanging vertical along...

Re: Where to live in PNW?
I was going to suggest Anacortes (and Jan's right Whidbey Island is nice), but access to airports is not so good out there. How about Bellingham? It's one of my favorite places - a good size university town with all the amenities close to the San Juans, the North Cascades, lots of outlying farm comm...

Re: Full Face and Radio
There are lots of reasons for losing consciousness of course - a CNS hit from oxygen toxicity is just one. Other reasons for FFMs are communications and environmental hazards (thermal, biological, chemical). FFMs are an important tool for public safety and commercial divers (as well as the tech and ...

Re: Spear Fishing?
I spearfish - mostly around the San Juans. There is a short season for Lingcod which is in late spring - right now there is not much going on unless you want to target Kelp Greenling, Rock Sole or Starry Flounder (all quite tasty actually). During the season I make special outings to hunt Lingcod, b...

The areas are still open for foot traffic, although hauling dive equipment is a challenge, we under...
