Re: God's Pocket Situation
Is the Browning Pass Hideaway an ok option these days, assuming they don't dump your gear into the water before you get there.....? I was also hoping to make it up there in the next year or two, but a last minute trip is definitely not happening for me. The Hideaway takes rustic adventures to a new...

Re: God's Pocket Situation
That's tragic news for sure! I'm heading up there April 8th for my annual trip, I think for the 12th time in God's Pocket. I really hope they find a buyer before we lose this amazing treasure in the PNW!

Give Redondo one more try after dark before too long. I agree that Redondo can be pretty boring in the daytime, all the critters really seem to come out at night.

Hornby Island Diving with Steller Sealions - Jan 2018
I just returned from a great week long trip up the Hornby Island BC, about an hour north of Nanaimo. Hornby Island Diving is a top notch operation with really friendly and capable operators in John and Amanda. Their family has been operating the lodge since the 70's. The main attraction in the winte...

Re: Atomic Cobalt computer issues
I would have to flip what your LDS said about Shearwater 180 degrees. They have great support, constant software and firmware updates, and long lasting value. My 8 year old Predators are still in great condition and received a low cost overhaul just last year. My perception is that SW has lot of cus...

Re: When Penpoint Gunnels Attack!
What a shocking and terrifying experience! Let's all try to be safe out there, maybe time for some of that scuba-chainmail the shark divers on TV use! I had a similar experience this year that shook me to the core, an unprovoked assault by a vicious Scallyhead Sculpin: Gods Pocket March 2017 (36 of ...

What a great turnout this week! It was a beautiful nights for classic Redondo diving. It might be my last dive of the year, so best to go out with a great experience. Here are a few of my pics from the night, sadly Lumpy-Free. Redondo Dec 21 2017 (6 of 72).jpg Redondo Dec 21 2017 (9 of 72).jpg Redon...

Re: Switched over to drysuit finally!
I find the shoelace, tube, etc to be a hassle. I tried them one or twice and quickly lost them as I unsuited. Now I just put on my lightweight glove-liners before I put my arms in the suit on so the seal is over the gloves. Problem solved and no extra items to remember and avoid loosing.

Wow, I love the baby RIL. You can even see the start of the "stars in the eye". I need to look up the lifecycle of the Red Irish Lord now to see where the juveniles usually get their start.

San Juans Sept 10th on Lu Jac
I had the pleasure to join an outing on the Lu Jac in the San Juans on Sunday for a wonderful day of diving. Amazing visibility and calm seas with just a bit of Fog & Orcas! The fog spoiled some otherwise prime dive sites early on as we could not do some of the more heavily trafficked sites with...

ThThTh 9/7 Dive Report
We had a great turn out for ThThTh 9/7 with seven divers for Splash #1 and eight for Splash #2. Conditions were very nice with a high tide enabling an easy stairway entry and good vis. At the end of the pier there was about 20' vertical vis all the way to the bottom, reducing to maybe 15' horizontal...

Re: Where would you retire in the USA to live and Dive?
Ok, but I also gave a suggestion on the where part.
As for Income Tax, you know your situation best. However, many pension, 401k, and other retirement funds may indeed be subject to Federal and State income taxes as they are paid out.

Re: Where would you retire in the USA to live and Dive?
You can always move to another State and trade property taxes for income taxes. Washington is one of the few states to not have income taxes, which is exactly why property tax has to be somewhat higher. I think WA is about #12 out of 50. Comparing per County property taxes rates in the state vs divi...
