I will try to join you if I can get there on time. May bring a daughter too. Don't wait, though.

Re: Advice Needed
Northenlights, Welcome to the forum. I am also from MN, but a long long time ago. A couple good, easy sites that will be a bit of a drive from Birch Bay are Mukilteo T dock (south side of Everett, probably 45 mn drive) and Cove 2 in West Seattle. The T Dock usually does not have much current and is ...

Re: Building a system around the Canon s100
Another thing to think about. 2-3 years back I decided to get an entry camera. I bought a Canon SD790 and Ikelite housing. I did a few stupid things and drowned 2 cameras - one on a recent trip to Cozumel. Canon goes through models really quick - they only made them for a year. I cannot buy a decent...

Ammonia is good - much better than having someone pee on your face. Agree that meat tenderizer was used on the gulf coast. Vinegar is supposed to help too if done right away.

I can also recommend Rich's lights. My wife has used hers for over 6 months now. Works better than my can light that cost almost twice the price. He can provide webbing for connect to a belt or to a BP. Battery is a standard you can get from a hobby shop. Charger included. There are a bunch of photo...

Re: Whidbey Island
Welcome to the club. I do not know Whidbey sites well, but the Mukilteo T Dock is close and is usually current free, but sometimes there is a light current. On rare occasions the current is significant. There is some man-made structure there, and you usually can find some wolf eels in the pipes at t...

Re: Hello from a traveling nomad!
I know Underwater Sports has rental dry suits, but you either need a cert card or you need to have an arrangement with one of their instructors to rent one. You need to contact the store if you want the rental price. Lighthouse diving also rents dry suits - $65/d for the suit only, $85/d for suit, u...

Re: Hello from a traveling nomad!
Welcome to the club! Probably the best way to get the dry suit cert is to contact an instructor and see if you can do a private class. There is a pool session and an open water dive, so you can do it in a day or 2. There are several instructors on this forum who can do it. If you do not own a dry su...

I believe that the default is to provide email notifications of replies. For the past month or 2, however, the notification does not seem to be working properly. I just received notification today for a PM sent last Wed.

Re: Dry suit exhaust valve
I have an old OS Systems dry suit that seriously soaked my wife when she tried it. You are welcome to take it and the valves if you like. Am leaving for Cozumel tomorrow evening - PM if you want to pick it up tomorrow. I live in NW Seattle, almost to Shoreline.

I would support Nanaimo too - several good wreck dives there. If you get a passport another good place that is easy to get to is La Paz, in Baja California, Mexico. There is a an artificial wreck dive you can do that is a swim through type penetration with easy exits (I did it right after AOW cert) ...

Penrose State Park, located across Carr Inlet from the north end of Fox Island, lists scuba as an activity. Also crabbing. Anyone been diving there? Crabbing? Looks mostly like just sandy bottom from the aerial photos.

At Muk Thursday evening, viz at depths below 20 ft was around 30 ft, seemed to deteriorate a bit below 100 ft or so, but was still decent at 125 ft.

Re: cleaning bottles
Bleach and most acids (other than hydrofluoric) will not hurt glass. Vinegar is a good, safe acid that you can pour down the drain when you are done with it. Muriatic acid is an impure grade of hydrochloric acid. It gives off vapor, which is what you smell. It should be used in a well ventilated pla...

Re: Crabbing
Primary season is July to Labor Day. License is fairly cheap - less than $20 last year. You need to read the map from the Dept. of Fisheries to determine your limit and see the area designations. Lots of people crab at Muk. Cove 2 is off limits, I believe, due to contamination. Not too hard when the...

FWIW, Plan Your Dive shows the current station about half way between Edmonds and Kingston. It predicts slack at 5:02 and max current of 0.3 kt at 7:33.

I can also recommend Dusty's Z Light. Bought one for my wife in Dec. Now another diver in my group is diving one. I am waiting for my old can light to die so I can get one.

Check out this thread Light & Motion Sola 1200 vs. Canister Light - Feb. 16, 2012.
Most regular divers here use can lights. There are a couple locals, Dusty2 and H2Odoctor that make can lights for a good price.

Dove the West Wall with Don at Pacific Adventures yesterday. Caught a couple interesting crabs, and cannot find a clear match in my books. My best guess is golf ball crab.

I was at the Muk Satellite dish (about 110 ft) with a buddy (also was my instructor, but we dive together regularly) when his backup started to free flow and he could not stop it. It was his first dive with the reg after having annual service. He made sure I knew what his situation was, and we start...

Great day for my first club dive. Enjoyed the food and company, weather was perfect, and the viz was great. Saw a 1/2 inch stubby squid, 1 inch grunt sculpin, red irish lord, and even one of the Redondo lumpies. http://www.nwdiveclub.com/posting.php?mode=reply&f=3&t=17273# Sent the recipe fo...
