Mrs. Magoi came down with a cold and will be staying home. I will be coming with Mancub. Will bring a side dish - black beans and cous cous. Will be happy to buddy up - don't know Redondo well, have only been there 5-6 times and just poked around on my own.

I am going to the club dive on Sunday - would be happy to transport them there if you do not go. Am picking up the light from Dusty. I would even take the money for you. Margaret may not be able to go - she picked up a cold this week.

Will be there with my wife. She needs to pick up her light from Dusty. We've only been to Redondo a few times - will be good to learn more.

Re: Seeking a diving mentor
Jeff's suggestion is a good one. Get a bit more training and then dive regularly. I did my training with a north end instructor that I dive with regularly (almost weekly). Also got him to train my wife and 2 daughters. He does mostly private classes now, but is also teaching diving at SPU. If you ar...

Re: Sealion vs. Octopus
My wife and I were diving at Cove 2 Friday evening, 1/13. We found a nice sized GPO out and about near the line, just past the penguin. We were enjoying the octo as it wandered around the bottom - watched it for about 5 minutes. Then a harbor seal appeared, grabbed a tentacle, and bit off a couple f...

Yeah, bought one of Dusty's for my wife for Christmas. Now her light is better than mine. My birthday is coming, though.

Re: T dock 12/28/11
I believe Octozilla is the one that hangs out at the boat near the satellite dish. Depth is approx. 100 -110 ft - today at a lower tide the depth was about 103. We went straight to the boat and hung out with it until my alarm went off to head shallower. It put on a great show for us. Stretched out a...

Re: Last day of crab season tomorrow... Who is in?
The T Dock is the close one, at the NOAA facility next door to the parking lot/entry point. The Oil Dock is the large one with the long swim and a bunch of rotting pilings. There are usually a lot of crab there, but the last time I went (mid-Nov) it was slim pickings for crab. Lots of rat fish, thou...

Re: Really bad news for Seattle divers
Bad news indeed. Looked the RFP over briefly. Seems like it is too late to file a protest. They are now in the process of negotiations (probably complete) and working on the legislation for City Council. There may be an opportunity for input of public opinion (petition) to the Parks dept. informally...

Re: Underwater Ice Tornado - Pretty interesting
Very cool. The brine phenomenon appears a bit confused in the writeup. It is well known that when water freezes, the ice that is formed is very pure and the dissolved salts are transferred to the liquid phase, forming the brine.

Re: Suggestions on good entry level camera
Nwbrewer has a good suggestion. You can probably get an Ikelite case for your camera and take an existing P&S diving. You will probably find that the case costs more than the camera, and each case is specific to a camera. I have a P&S and Ikelite case for a Canon P&S. I bought a backup c...

As the daughters are off to college and won't be home this year, my wife and I were thinking of heading over to Port Townsend for the Thanksgiving weekend and would like to do a few dives. Tides look pretty good for that weekend. We have never been diving over there before. Anyone have suggestions f...

Re: Old Corning Logo
For what it is worth, be careful mixing chemicals to clean things up. An example of what NOT to do is to use acid and bleach, as it releases chlorine gas which is very unpleasant. Muriatic should work well alone.

Re: What cylinder do you dive, and why?
I do rec diving. My main tank is a steel HP 120, but I prefer the HP 100 steel because it is shorter. Bought the 120 when I started diving and needed a lot of air because I was a hoover. I am tall enough for the 120, which is a very long tank. Now that my breathing is better, I have a built-in reser...
