Re: What kind of dive computer do you use? and why?
This computer gives a 3-minute countdown when you hit 20 feet for a safety stop. I only barely pushed my computer into deco, for a good reason, so I only accumulated a tiny bit of an obligation once I started up the line. It wanted me to do a 1 minute deco stop at 10 feet, so it gave me a one minute...

Re: What kind of dive computer do you use? and why?
I used a Veo 250 for over 100 dives. My gf now uses it. I bought a Nitek Duo because I got a screaming deal on it off craigslist, and think it's pretty good. I don't have call to use 2 mixes yet, but it's a good little computer. The download cable is freaking expensive though-I haven't bought one y...

Re: Dumbe question about under armour
The nice thing about something like Under Armour is that it still provides some insulation when wet. So I might be able to see some benefit to coming out of the water in the cold, and not peeling off neoprene down to your bare skin. It may also reduce water circulation, but I think you'd be better o...

Re: Scalloping at Deception Island this weekend
"there is no such thing as TOO MUCH air when diving". ...unless you are diving in six feet of water in WI through the weeds. And after an hour of swimming in circles, looking for the rock wall that is supposed to go down to 30 feet, you're still in the weeds, and you still have 2250psi. O...

Re: Semi Dry vs Dry
It's a big investment up front, no doubt, but totally worth it :) While you're watching for a drysuit, I can offer this: Semi-dry suits are still wetsuits. It's all a matter of reducing water movement. Look for something with good seals to keep water exchange at a minimum, and make sure the suit fit...

Re: From The Outside Looking In
Having spent $35 apiece on gas, driven two hours, driven the boat a half hour, spent a half hour gearing up (Including the obligatory discovery of some piece of gear that doesn't work and has to be swapped out while your buddies call helpful (not) comments in squeaky voices from the water) to do TH...

Re: Semi Dry vs Dry
It's AMAZING what a difference a few degrees makes. 48* > 44* is quite noticeable. 44* > 42* is even MORE noticeable. This is very true. Take it from someone who dives until the lake ices over, then when it's thick enough cuts a hole in it and jumps in. Wet diving in temperatures like that can be d...

There are ropes at EUP? All those dives there with you all and I never knew that?
I guess I'll just have to come back and verify for myself!

This is how I ice dive in WI: 3mm shorty 5mm hooded vest 7mm farmer jane three-finger mitts lots of lead It's the same system I used in the Sound, and I even did multiple dives a day with that. Diving wet is completely possible, and indeed comfortable if you do it right. Weighting is tricky (no mat...

Paul and I plan to be there. We won't bring chips.....however, being from the land of beer (and cheese), we are skilled at bringing all manner of alcohol into forbidden places, so it is likely we will bring the proper post-dive libations. See everyone on the 10th. Amen! At least *someone* will repr...

Re: Oceanic reg Servicing
I had mine serviced at Anacortes Diving...road trip! :P Though as long as you aren't concerned about warranty, many of the local technicians in my area (mind you, this is WI) will do annual service on a reg if you can get them the kit for it. But that means you have to get your hands on the service ...

Great pics!! I'd put my money on juvenile red rock crab as well -- those things would wash up all the time on the beach at camp, and if you could identify all the little crabs the kids found then you were the coolest instructor ever...

I saw this guy during my safety stop on 6/20 at Redondo. I had never seen one before, but we used to have a little one growing in the big tank at camp, and someone told me it was a lumpsucker. What a cutie!

Re: Thank you.
Actually, I exaggerate...last night I did a dive in a lake, surface temps were 78, I spent 94 minutes underwater and still came up with 1600 psi in my AL80...max depth 16 feet :neener: But we had fun playing with the bass there. You can pick up rocks for them to find crayfish and they like to be pet...
