Taking underwater photos...

So it would be really nice to get high-quality pictures of frogfishes/anglerfishes while I'm in Australia/Indonesia for future publications/presentations. However, the most I've used underwater is one of those cheap recyclable types. I am definitely not going to go out and buy an underwater camera, ...

That would be excellent to try yours out. I'm hopefully getting gear and getting into the Sound asap - I need as many dives as possible here to get comfortable with all this new gear that I'll be purchasing soon. I live in Shoreline, WA, but weekends I can get anywhere by car, and weeknights anywher...

Thanks for all these comments!! I am diving Western Australia (probably Perth mainly), possibly Victoria, and New South Whales in April. I've finally got some responses from Aussies over that way and they said either a semi-dry suit or dry suit would work fine. Unfortunately, the Barrier Reef will h...

Gear Questions

Think I'll move this here since it's all about gear: Some gear I'm thinking about/questions about (mostly taken from the new sport diver mag): There's a 7mm semi-dry suit made by Cressi for this year (MSRP $320) that looks pretty nice (sportdiver.com/cressi) if it'll keep me warm enough in Australia...

I really want to try those new Atomic fins sometime :) Wish I could persuade myself that my Dacor fins needed replacing...but with the upcoming very very expensive purchases, I guess I'll have to hold on to them for awhile!

Well it looks like South Australia is out, but Western Australia and New South Whales are probably going to be in (I know, W.A. is huge...). I'm trying to get some WA aussies to let me in on water conditions in April, but so far haven't been finding much luck. I think I'll look for dive shops there ...

Those places sound great - I was looking at the Bubbles Below website and noticed they dive Edmonds Underwater Park as well, and it sounds like fun! Beginner places are good - hopefully will help me get adjusted to the water temp here and using a dry suit!

Well if you could pay your own way you'd definitely be of help! I don't think I could get my prof. to pay for someone else though :\ I'm a 5'4 135lb female...I think I'll be a S or M for a drysuit, and I've always found that gear 'made for women' fit me better. *Most* of my collecting time I think w...

Also - though I study fishes...I know *next-to-nothing* about Puget Sound or the Pacific fishes. Which in itself is an compelling enough reason to get out there and check out what all the fuss is about. My studies as an undergrad were done in Southern Mississippi in the Gulf of Mexico during the sum...

Oh, I'm sorry - I'm currently in Shoreline (North City), and have a total of 5 logged dives...though if I can find my old logbook from long ago, that would probably bring it up to 8.

Wow - thanks for all the replies everyone! I do know Australia is known for its white sharks! I'm hoping to avoid contact with them though - my fish are shallow water, though sometimes found at 120 meters depth...hopefully the sharks don't decide to come in that close while I'm diving - even if I re...

New to the PNW

Hey guys - I've been in Seattle for 1.5 yrs and have yet to dive Puget Sound. Of course, I just got my dive certification recently as well, despite being a marine-biologist-in-training (long story as to why just now, but anyways...) I REALLY need some help - I need to get a total of 30 logged dives,...
