Re: Sea Stars are Back!!!!
Aha! Now I see! After Fukushima, the sea stars have been melting so that they can come together to form one giant Gojira-star! Fear the Gojira-star! I am more concerned about the inevitable rise of Mecha-OchreStar, the ultimate predator! black-starfish.jpg Oooh, we can watch Mecha-OchreStar battle ...

I'm out. People who schedule late afternoon meetings should be poked with something sharp. But not sharp enough to hurt them, just sharp enough to goose them.

I might be able to make this one! I'm trying to get over a stupid summer cold. Because colds are stupid, but summer colds are especially yucky.

Re: Big Sur
Your comment about sea lions and mola mola: When I observed this many years ago, I was told that they bit the fins off to immobilize the fish so that they could come back and eat them later. What fascinating behavior! Probably not for the mola molas, though. Great photos, and it sounds like it was ...

I will throw myself in with Team Dry Suit. But, as Penders said, 7 mm farmer john suits are readily available in the rental fleets of local shops, so it wouldn't hurt to rent one first and see how you do. Our waters are colder than what you're used to, and if you're not hunting you likely won't be m...

I'm glad to hear it's a favorite of a local expert! It looks to be a very charming island surrounded a marine reserve or protected waters, and not overly crowded. We're still very much in the planning stages, looking to go in December while I'm on break in between quarters (and ready for some warmth...

HOG regs are serviceable yourself, if you're so inclined, and inexpensive enough if you screw it up.

Hi Maria! I am happy to do an evening or weekend dive with you. I'm done with school for the summer and have a lot of dive time to make up myself.

Re: Been dry for a long time, need gear serviced. Where to go?
Hi Matt! It depends. 8 Diving in Des Moines is great for tanks and general service. The last time I checked they were sending their regs to Don Peterson, but were planning to get someone on staff, not sure if that's happened yet. Dry suit seals I would get done at UWS on Aurora, since they do those ...

Re: Have a great trip!
My sister and I are planning a dive somewhere this fall, but haven't settled on where yet. Our purpose is to scatter our dad's ashes, and were thinking of going somewhere he loved diving, like the Keys. Future trips in the early stages include Galapagos and Indonesia, but definitely not until I fini...

NAUI is also recognizable all over the world, fwiw, but I understand parental preferences. Nobody's batted an eye at any of my certs, which are from three different agencies.
