Re: Flash problems
Ok, I'm an idiot, I'll admit it right up front. I had a 960 strobe from Sealife and I really liked it. I went to Bonaire and took about 400 pictures with it. Hurrah. There were some nice German divers there and they really liked my strobe but it would have cost them about $600 in Germany so in the ...

Re: Focal Point
I am very new to the underwater photographer thing. I am shooting a Canon G9 with an Ikelite housing. In order to start slow I am not using a strobe at this point and am staying pretty much with ambient light shots. I have started by just using the program mode and setting the white balance for my ...

Invert ID help
Anyone know what these are of hand? Going through photo's, away from books. They are between 1-3' in height in ~35' of water, in Oregon... photo's kinda lousy with 6' visibility, surge and man those things move quick in the surge, had to crank on the shutter speed and ISO to get any type of shot. ar...

My friend has been diving there on a nudibranch research deal the past two springs (there)... they've turned up 10 or more new species not even looking for them- they are working with a species that some info is known. I wish his photo's were mine to post, absolutely amazing- 1/4 mile visibility, sp...

Floating docks and scallops
Jan, cool observation: I always check out the floating docks when they pick them out for replacement/maintanence... There are always Young of the Year scallops on them (rock scallops in this case) they can settle on them in the summer... but cannot survive so high in the water column when the rain c...

Re: Dogfish vs Mud Sharks
"mud shark" in my experience refers to six gill or sleeper sharks.Octoloco wrote:For those in the know:
Is there a difference between these two names or are they one and the same???
Thanks in advance
dogfish is the much smaller spiny dogfish.

difference
Hey Tim, since i just figured out that i'm in the only common range of these two fish, i'm probably one of few that has a photo of them side by side. My buddy pointed this out to me a while back and i took this photo, he said the only absolute diagnostic ID is probably head spines and fin rays... wh...

Olives are indeed California range and I think range is about the only way to really tell them apart-I think that's what Janna told me. Great find! We have them both down here, i've seen them side by side and you can tell the difference (when, as in my case, it was pointed out to me). The coloratio...
