Re: Day 2 Saturday Ft Lauderdale

Cool video, thanks for sharing - I like your write ups too. :supz: BTW, what was the black and white fish with the huge long dorsal? Although it has a similar color pattern, this is not a jackknife fish, it's a juvenile drum. Actually I have to correct myself - I've never heard of a "jackknife...

Re: Tacoma Equipment Dive on Saturday

this thread reminds me of this comic: http://www.eatliver.com/img/2010/6579.jpg Did Spatman just get away with calling us all a douchebag by cleverly concealing it in a comic strip? Did Pez just get away with telling Spatman he's wrong by cleverly concealing it in a post about concealing douchebag ...

Re: Tacoma Equipment Dive on Saturday

This really isn't about pink snorkels. Or cases that are obvious suicide attempts. This IS about those gray areas - maybe their plan is ok, maybe it's not, maybe the person knows what they're getting into, maybe they don't (again, you don't need to be a newbie to make a mistake). The point is that I...

I'm sorry, but I didn't ask for your advise on that subject and I must ask that you abide by the rules of NWDC and not give it unless explicitly asked for  *yes, this is sarcasm*

Re: Ft Lauderdale information please?

I did manage to get into a fight with a 7 foot Nurse shark while on the dive. I had no fish on the stringer and was about 50 feet deep with a 65 foot bottom. Damn thing came at me hell bent to leather. I ended up having to poke it 5 times with my gun to get it to leave me alone. Quite a moment. Of ...

Re: Tacoma Equipment Dive on Saturday

If you go back and look at Tangfish's post, you'll see that the entire post is a link to NWDC's Terms Of Service, and that, yes indeed, it is so written. The way I look at it, it's cautioning us NOT to pass judgment too quickly. If someone is planning something dangerous, out of pure ignorance, it'...

Re: Tacoma Equipment Dive on Saturday

I don't think I'm missing the point at all - what if this person was newer to diving and didn't know that diving to 100 feet on an ally 80 was considered by some to not be the best choice? Do I have to specify in every post I write that if someone thinks that I have an error in my calculations they ...

Re: Tacoma Equipment Dive on Saturday

Tangfish, are you serious or was that sarcasm? Maybe I'd find that "rule" in the forum guidelines or whatever if I looked into them, but I certainly hope not. I would think that until new divers stop visiting this board, we should always give constructive criticism (it is, afterall, how we...

Re: What is this mystery creature at EUP?

Anyone have any more photos of quillfish? They're needed for an artist to make drawings of this species. :) I have a few at home, Rachel ... they're not very good, since that was back when I had my first camera, but they do show it from different angles. Might be good enough to fill in the details ...

You saw a FROGFISH!! Congratulations on seeing the coolest fish in the world. Oh, and the wobbegong is nice too. My favorite place in all of Australia is Busselton Jetty, Western Australia, second only to Yorke Peninsula, South Australia, but for the latter you need to be ok with filling your alumin...

A Thank You to our Instructors

A group of us from NWDC recently went to Maui for a mini dive vacation. On our first day of boat diving, a woman died while scuba diving. We don't know the actual reason for her death, but poor training and/or poor skill upkeep may have been the contributing factor. I think someone else from the gro...

Re: New action on Neah Bay dive area?

Personally I think that marine areas should default to closure unless there's reasonable certainty that harvest rates are sustainable. Philosophically, I don't like the burden of proof being shifted to those that wish to restrict harvest since its basically impossible to meet such a standard (not t...

WTT: Dive computer for tank

I'm looking for a steel tank, preferably a HP100 or HP119 in hydro.

I have an extra dive computer, so I need to get rid of either the Sherwood Wisdom or the Suunto Cobra (both air-integrated); either one makes no difference to me.
