Diving related vanity plates

Post by lizard0924 »

As I was driving home last night on I-5 south, I ended up following a green Ford Escape with personalized plates that read "DIVEMBL" with a scuba flag bracket around the plate. Got me to wondering two things:

1) Was it someone from the board?

2) Does anyone here have vanity plates that are scuba related?

Just wondering how creative (or not) some other board members might be! (Can you tell I'm killing time at work on this quiet pre-holiday workday? :)).

I've seen "PADIDVR" on the back of a red truck with an enormous PADI sticker in the middle of the back window at Redondo.

Rob has "CABEZON."

I also think I know the guy who has "OCTOPUS," "WOLFEEL," and "SIXGILL."

Last time I checked, "TECHDVR" was available, as was "STROKE" but I know Spatman was hoping that'd still be available when he moved to Washington. "UTDTECH," "FRGKICK," and "MEGDIVR" were all available a while ago too.

I like vanity plates because I have several vehicles and hate memorizing random number/letter combinations... yet it always seems like I need them for some reason. The final straw for me was the 3rd time I visited the Duty Free when coming back from BC and, for the 3rd time, I had to go out to my car to look at the plate... again.

Looking up plates is a fun way to spend a lunch break. Washington residents can check to see if the plate you want is available here: https://fortress.wa.gov/dol/dolprod/vsdpersonalplate/

My girlfriend, who dives as well, just bought her first motorcycle and was looking to put a personalized plate on it. Not being a huge fan of personalized tags, I suggested "SQUID". Unfortunately, I couldn't get her to go with it...and perhaps it was a little mean of me to suggest it to her. :) Ok. VERY mean of me to suggest it...

Isn't "Squid" to motorcycles as "Stroke" is to diving?

I dive with a guy who has HEN2O2 on his HI tag. I think there might be a nitrox colored frame around it.

When I first started diving, my father gave me a "I'd rather be diving" plate boarder thingy, but the "Sport Chalet" add on the bottom has kept me from using it! :shootself: Thanks Pops!

Yup. She was trying to figure out how to get "octopus" into five letters, and I pointed out that "squid" fit just fine, and she likes the stubby squids.

I can be really, really mean sometimes. The couch is comfortable, though. :)

I thought so (former Duc owner), but I wasn't sure if that was just an Arizona thing or if "Squid" was more wide-spread.

I would have been surprised if he didn't work in the industry... you can't miss the huge PADI sticker on the color-matched red F-150.

All my dive mobile says is "OCTOPUS."

Man you owned a duc and got rid of that baby??? With a pair of vince pipes or m2 pipes them machines sound MEAN!
I have a sv650 and require no more power than that for just riding (cops don't like sportsbikes as it is) my ride sounds mean but not near as b.a as a duc with a new exhaust system overhaul on it.

How many letters can go on a plate? I'm thinking about getting octo101 or eel101 on my next set of plates

Yeah, I grew up and got married and the bike had to go. In all honesty, I miss it on warm sunny days. I still have both Arai helmets... I just can't bring myself to get rid of them (they're like works of art).

Oh, sorry there "Mr. Ford Guy." How DARE I say such a thing?! I must have been distracted by the 36" sticker on the rear window. (I'll admit, I thought it was an F150).

That's how I picked up my bike for a 1000 under the blue book. The guy had two daughters and needed cash for a boat.

Arai is top of the line but helmets keep on changing so much that within a year the helmet loses a quarter or more of its value. I just went with a scorpion helmet. I don't race.....so no need for a lighter helmet
