Where in the world?

Post by coachrenz »

If you could dive anywhere in the world, where would you choose to dive. I have included in the list common dive destinations as listed on several websites' "Top Ten Dive Destinations" lists.

You can pick up to three options, and if you feel like your favorite isn't on the list, go ahead and write one in on a post below.

I have personally only dove 3 of the above locations, but, look forward to hearing the opinions of others who may have actually been in the water in these places.

I think a great endorsement for a destination is someone willing to spend the money to go back.

I'm assuming that Micronesia is Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, et al?

Aarrgghh... I wanted to put Vancouver Island but the three warm water choices just edged it out...

I voted for Micronesia and British Columbia. Been to both areas and would go back as often as possible. As for the Caribbean - once you've dived one island you've seen it all - even though some places have more of "it" than others.

My third choice would be Scapa Flow in Scotland.

I would have chosen Chuuk if it were on the list.

Philippines and Palau would be at the top for me.

I suppose that this is true.

However, I've been to Bonaire 3 times and have a return trip booked. I can't seem to stay away, and here is why:

If you love to DIVE (and by that I mean dive your rear off as much as your body can take and your computer will allow) then Bonaire is close to without peer. It is amazing not only for what you see, but for the 60-80 marked dive sites that are within an hour's drive that you can dive on your schedule, as much as you want, any time of the day or not. You are not limited by boat schedules, weather, a dive ops priorities, or anything else. It is truly "the home of diving freedom".

I suppose that there are other destinations where the same might be true, but I haven't found them yet - and certainly not as close and reasonably priced as Bonaire.

I am hopelessly hooked! \:D/

+1 for Bonaire-I've been there twice, and will definitely go back again.

Micronesia for Chuuk (after some tech training, so I can spend the amount of time I'd like to on some of those boats.)

Galapagos for critters. Oh man, the critters...

British Columbia because of all the dive reports I've seen from there.

And South Africa for White Sharks, the whole reason I started diving....

There is another spot just like this...except it's a bit more travel-intense. (Well, I've never been to Bonaire...so I'm basing this on my experience and the dive reports of those that go.)

Lembeh Strait. The place I went you get to set your own schedule, you're on a boat to yourself, and the diving is incredible.
Happy Diving!

I was actually thinking of your report as I wrote mine Lowell.... I'd love to do the trip you did someday.

However, as far as cost goes, I can use air miles to Bonaire and spend 500-700 for a week of diving (lodging, breakfast, pickup, nitrox). Kind of hard to beat price wise.

But boy do I want to get to Lembeh someday...
