It has been a long while (almost 11 months) since my last Hood Canal dive. So Penders and I decided to hit Sund Rock on Saturday. We experienced a beautiful sunny day with about 20-25 viz. Our first dive took us to the south wall. We saw the normal cast of characters; wolf eels, octos, some really large nudi's, and large schools of Rockfish. However, the highlight of the day occurred on the second dive to the North wall. As we were heading to the Sea Whips at about 85' a Wolf Eel swam in from our left and swam about 5-8 feet from us in open water. I have seen Wolf Eels come out of their dens for a look at us, but never one swimming right out in the open! Penders shot some video (which I hope he posts). It always amazes me that even after several hundred dives one can experience another "first" in their dive history. What a treat.
Another first for me, was to get a really good shot of an Red Irish Lord's eye. I am always disappointed when I review me RIL shots because the flash usually washes out the cool spots. However, a kelp leaf on the left shielded my left strobe and my right was way out in front of its nose. As you can see from the photo, the light went through the lens of the eye and illuminated the beautiful spots.
Okay Penders, post that video

Sund Rock
No, I didn't forget. But that one was still close to its den, not free swimming in the open
Re: Sund Rock
Very cool, thanks for sharing! Looks like time for a visit to the canal soon...
Re: Sund Rock
Great shots!
Vis at Sund Rock yesterday (dec 20th) was 30ft, a bit murkier down at the sea whips below 80ft.
Lots of wolfies, as usual, and a couple GPOs with eggs.
